This is a little break from the music today. Often an artist will do a preliminary drawing before they do another rendition in another medium. This is the preliminary drawing along side the oil painting.

You’re super, Leslie. Loved both the sketch and the finished painting. I have this thing about sketching. If I sketch something, I feel like I can’t paint it. I’m working on a study of tulips at the moment and did something with ink but now I want to try again with oils. I know the painting is going to look really different from the sketch and I’m bracing myself. Good luck with your work. xo

In my experience the sketch is never quite the same as the final painting. When you add the details and colour it makes it look different. For me it is an exercise in composition.
