The Kill by L. Martel

This is another new project – a 5″ x 7″ oil on canvas board. There is some debate as to the bird. I thought the prey was a seal at first but now I think it is an otter. It needs a lot more work.

  1. I’ll be interested to see how you design the markings. An otter is a big animal, so is this a really big hawk or an eagle? Because nothing smaller could take an otter. The usual meals are more like squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, small dogs, and pet cats. Mice and rats, too. Other birds. Many big birds eat smaller birds.

    • That was my thinking too, but on reflection a seal has fur and I don’t think the seal does. The bird has to be pretty big for a prey like that. Just by going on the colouring alone, I would say it’s probably a very big Hawk.
