Khajuraho by swo8 Blues Jazz from the album Black Taj in iTunes

Valentine’s Day is coming up next week so what better way to celebrate romance than with a little erotica. Khajuraho is known for its game preserve but more so for its temples embellished with erotic carvings. The Khajuraho temples, like almost all Hindu temple designs, follow a grid geometrical design called vastu-purusha-mandala. The design plan has three important components – Mandala means circle, Purushais universal essence at the core of Hindu tradition, while Vastu means the dwelling structure. The temples feature a variety of art work, of which 10% is sexual or erotic art outside and inside the temples. Some of the temples that have two layers of walls have small erotic carvings on the outside of the inner wall. Thought to have originate from the 10th century, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. Khajuraho has the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples. All the photos were taken by me. 2:31 min.
