The Cretan Bull was a bull that appeared in the myth of the Labours of Heracles, as well as the myth of the Minotaur, in Greek mythology. Bull-leaping is thought to have been a key ritual in the religion of the Minoan civilization in Bronze Age Crete. As in the case of other Mediterranean civilizations, the bull was the subject of veneration and worship. Representation of the Bull at the palace of Knossos is a widespread symbol in the art and decoration of this archaeological site. The bull jumping was often done by women who would grab the bull by the horns then flip over the back of the animal. In the reference to the volcano it is thought that the volcano on the island of present day Santorini erupted and the ensuing tsunami destroyed the early civilization on the island of Crete.
