I keep my distance from the shopping frenzy.

We don’t do much that either.

@Leslie, during our 5 years in the US, we NEVER rushed to stores on vendredi noir… and btw, I’m agoraphobic, too… 🙂

Around here there has been no long lines or mad-dash shoppers around. Turns out, they got all the same deals on Wednesday!!!

They like to get people ravved up.

That mad idea is over here now too. But I didn’t buy anything at all today 🙂

I was so surprised to see Black Friday ads in Ontario this week for today. I saw a quote saying we just were thankful for what we have on Thursday then go out and impulse buy the next day to buy more and more, things we don’t need. I never shopped on Black Friday. I hate the crowds and mostly despise shopping in general. Nice music.

Me too Donna. I spent the day decorating my grandson’s birthday cake.

Who else would turn it into a song but you 🙂 ?
I have not gone anywhere near a shop this time of year in memory. Never since Garry and I have been married. HE used to be a last minute shopper when he was working. Now, he just buys a present for me on my birthday and leaves the rest to me 🙂

Smart man and very smart move. We don’t shop either. We draw names for Christmas presents and all the children get a present. Some of the grandchildren have grown up so they’ve fallen off the list of children.

We… are screwed! Most of the currency we have is useless now, and we hunt for those sellers who accept cards, or mobile payment!
LikeLiked by 1 person
That is going to create an enormous black market. Not everyone has one of those devices and it is going to make small transactions very difficult.

Well, lets see.. it appears that mobile payment systems are becoming popular

Does everyone have one of those devices? There are going to be a lot of people left behind in a no money situation. Let me know what happens.

Well, the government is now promoting something called Niti Aayog. This does not rely on smart phone technology, but does use the technology of the old, push button phones. My mom, for instance, has an old push button phone
For those who are illiterate, this can be a problem, because they can be duped. Thus say the naysayers. Fact is, that they get duped by their employers anyway. We have to change, instead of always cribbing about the government
There will be a lot of short term pain. Our maids, for instance, are paid in cash. Now, we will either transfer money to their account or pay them by cheque…. wherever possible

Is this being done to monitor the movement of money?

Yes indeed. But, the rich and powerful would have moved their money out of the country already

But of course.

But, I went to the bank today to deposit the money. The waiting time is 3 hours in the line!

It is like the protestors in the US. They are paid by various groups with their own agenda.

Oh really? Happens there as well?
But these lines are not political. People with too much of the old cash pay people to stand in lines to recycle their old cash.
This is why cash exchange has suddenly been banned. The old 1000 rupee notes have been completely banned. We can still buy fuel with the old 500 rupee notes till the 15th December.

It happens all over. I’m wondering if this is the beginning of the financial collapse.

You think so? I believe that the financial market in the US has reacted to Trump with glee. He has promised to reduce regulations

You know what happened last time? Ultimate greed took over and without regulation they will take it too far again. With the US debt so high and growing. Individual debt is equally high. I’d pack away the gold because it’s coming.

Many Indians bought gold this time. But at very, very high prices. they will get screwed. Royally screwed?

I am not sure if my reply went through. But, the day demonetization was announced, people rushed to buy gold, and prices doubled overnight. Now, the income tax people will catch them

It is interesting to note that for some reason people can easily be fooled by ads that make you think deals are real. If time permits it is worth monitoring prices in shops before the so called ‘black Friday’ you will realise the so called deals are not deals at all.

This is one thing about the good old brinks and mortar shopping. You can look at the item and decide if that is what you want. You have no idea what they are selling you online.
