I don’t normally post on Tuesdays but today is The International Day of the Girl and this is such an important issue. This video is called Ecoutez-moi by swo8 Blues Jazz from the album Manaus Where Two Rivers Meet on iTunes. It is dedicated to the rights of girls/women and especially to our right to an education. It is sung in French because French is the second language in most North African countries. Malala Yousafzai is a strong advocate for these rights and she nearly lost her life in the fight. All photos of Malala are from the public domaine. 3:41 min. 2 MB
Vey powerful! May all women be treated as equal to men with love and respect.

Vous voulez être écoutées, filles et femmes? It begins when you denounce and renounce the patriarchy in the home; when you denounce and renounce all patriarchal religions and divinities. The one constant on this world is change, but change that refuses to expose and destroy the source of any problem is meaningless change, words in the wind, tears in the rain.

This is getting more attention these days with Michelle Obama throwing her weight behind it. Good for you! The more of us who speak out, the better.

Leslie every post of yours remind me about things which are close to my heart. The one thing Zimbabwe values is education parents will sacrifice and sell their livestock to get money to pay for their children’s education. Thank God that both girls are treated the same, the nation has come a very long way girls are no longer married off at a young age.
There is still more work to be done along equal opportunities for girls and women which need to be challenged. Thank you for this powerful post.

Thank you, Mabel. I’m glad to hear that girls have a better chance at getting a good education in Zimbabwe. There is still more work to be done but at least we are moving forward.
