Phoenix on the Rise by L. Martel

This is a 5″ x 7″ acrylic on canvas board painted by me in 2013. I love the flow of colours. Can you see the Phoenix?

  1. I must lack culture, as I cannot!

The colors are very appealing, though. They just work.

From the NOT an art critic. Reading here has certainly expanded my horizons, Leslie, so I thank you for that.

  2. Hmmm… by your composition, I think he’s right in the middle. The bottom half of your really cool painting is very dark, as if it needs to be something to rise up from. The top half is lighter, sunnier. The phoenix, I think, is in full wing flap, with the wings positioned at the end of the downward flap, and pulling himself up out of the dark.

I could be wrong, though… wouldn’t be the first time. 🙂

Excellent painting! I’m generally not one for abstract art, but I really like this painting!

    Best,
