The Rose of Black is Sacred by swo8 Blues Jazz lyrics by Shelby Courtland from the album Unfinished business in iTunes

It is always with heavy heart that I present this collaborative work of music. The lyrics are by the great American poet Shelby Courtland and are meant to make us search our souls. On the evening of Saturday, August 13, 2016 a 23 year old man, Sylville Smith, was shot by police in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In a country where the rule of law exists, we are all equal before the law. In a police state the police become the judge, jury and executioner. You tell me what is happening here. Please feel free to share. 4:18 min. 2 MB.

  1. The man had a gun in hand and a long rap sheet and he refused to put the gun down. Please get the facts straight before invoking “police state” which it is definitely not. The media is stirring this up and even failing to report that the officer involved in the shooting was also black. This sort of post just stirs things up and makes them worse.

  2. There are hate-mongers on both sides who delight in sewing their vile travesties of ‘free-speech’ and ‘rights’. They raise the ‘temp’ from the safety of their platforms and then let the folk on the street take the consequences, be whatever role those folk are playing in the maelstrom.
In the UK we have them on both the Right & the Left, and I am very disillusioned with my once Socialist ‘comrades’, I no longer recognise them.

  3. Just listened to a radio program with Martha Nussbaum talking about what a useless emotion anger is even though we’re really attached to our anger. So much anger on both sides of the law-enforcement question, but where does it get us?

  4. The song above goes to this man, too, who was shot and killed here in my home state, in the city of Kelso.

Depending on which news story one believes, the man either struck an officer with a walking stick, a “staff,” (a la Gandalf, I suppose), or a pole. Security camera footage shows nothing, nor do the body-cameras that police are supposed to wear.

It’s too much…how many white shoplifters were shot and killed last week, I wonder?
    Answer: NONE.
