The Quarter Man by swo8 Blues Jazz from the album Unfinished Business in iTunes

The US jobs report was disappointing and we aren’t doing much better here in Canada. There aren’t any jobs at the union hall and there are over 800 people looking for work. If you look around the neighbourhood there are a lot of extra cars in the driveway. This isn’t a sign of prosperity it is a sign of contraction in the economy. The kids are moving back home. With this in mind The Quarter Man is most appropriate.

  1. I remember “quarter man”. I did not know jobs were difficult to get in Canada too. In the States, the statistics are always under reported because many people have not worked in years and are no longer “unemployed” according to the politicians bragging how employment rates have climbed under their watch.

    • It is terrible in Canada. We have always been a branch plant economy, so when companies can get cheaper labour elsewhere they are out of here. I had a small business at one point and the number of taxes I had to collect and remit were formidable. Big business has a lot of influence with government too.

      • It is similar here. Having been in business with my ex husband, it was criminal what the government took in taxes. Being self-employed, we pay social security, but don’t collect it if we are not working for someone else. That seems very unfair.

      • The government has cut back on the payout of unemployment insurance and has used the excess build up of those funds for other expenditures. It’s criminal as far as I’m concerned.

  2. We’re in an election campaign here and the conservatives are running with the mantra “Jobs and Growth”, which they say at least ten times in any interview. It’s becoming a running joke with people talking about this mythical creature “Jobson Growth” and asking when he’s actually going to show up.

    • It’s a universal problem, Gert. They have everything ass backwards. With all these trade deals they think that if they can sell something to someone else for cheaper they are going to fix everything. So we race to the bottom by lowering our currencies and making everyone work for peanuts. Meanwhile the multinational BIG WIGS pocket all the proceeds and keep the money off shore. We know what they are doing.
Let’s rub their collective noses in it.

  4. Great music, had to hear you play,
True for all time, but especially today.
Rulers need workers, won’t pay what their worth,
Really want to bury them deep in the earth.

  5. Reblogged this on necltr and commented:
Not a quarter, a dime is all you earn,
Give back fifteen cents, I’ll wait for your return.
We are the rulers, filled with pride,
And we’ll take all we that’s in your hide.
Notice: Western civilization under new management.

  6. Hmm it looks like your web site ate my first comment (it was very long) so
I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and
say, I’m truly enjoy your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Have you got any tips and hints for newbie blog writers?
    I’d definitely value it.
