I’m totally disgusted with what is going on in our Senate. These guys and girls are called “Honourable” Pardon me while I choke.

We are heavily invested in the future of this world. Our children are working too hard to take on the challenge. It is up to us to try and sort things out.

We’ve got a Senate system where the best chance you have of getting into the Senate is by representing one of the 2 major parties. And once there, you vote the party line. It’s supposed to be a house of review, but it’s always just been a numbers game. In the last few years a few very ordinary people not aligned with the major parties have managed to get elected, thanks to vagaries in the system. They were widely ridiculed for being brainless know-nothings, but most of them have really done the work to look at policy and try to vote with their beliefs about what’s best for ordinary people and they are the only thing that’s stopped some extremely unfair government policies becoming law (wait 6 months for unemployment benefits, huge increase in the cost of degrees for students, for example). Now the senate voting rules are going to be changed so that such people can’t get elected. And so politics remains the preserve of the big parties and those who do what the party machine tells them.

It’s much the same here. Make sure that everyone knows what you think about this situation. You won’t be alone and you just might shame them into doing the right thing. Play my song a lot. Get it into the media. We can make a difference. Bonne chance.

My parents told me that I was named after my Dad, John. But they also told me they heard my name (Johnna, sounds like Donna) on a Dove commercial. I’m not sure what the truth is, but that “h” in my name really messes people up. 🙂
Being mad at politicians seems like a waste of time. I mean, they’re all just playing the game, right? But it makes you wonder… What happens to people who become politicians? How do they ignore and bury their shame? To become a politician, do you have to stop feeling shame?

Sorry about that, Johnna, I was wondering if I had spelt it wrong.
I think the politicians get caught up in the mind set of an economy based upon trade and growth. They hob nob with the big guns of the multinationals and then they lose track about what is going on at home. What is happening to the people becomes the last thing on their minds.

No need to apologize, my friend. And I guess the moral of the story is that money always talks louder than people.

We can do something about that.

There’s probably a lot of things we can do something about, but when you live in constant pain, you have to let go of some of that… or it might drive you crazy. 🙂

This was great. But I still think Canada has more honorable politicians though. Look at the mess for our elections. Ethics, what ethics. I think the US lost that word in our vocabulary. 😀
