The Wizard and the Magna Carta by L. Martel

This is a 8″ x10″ oil on canvas of a Wizard who is carrying a document called the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta was signed by King John of England in 1215 and is a profoundly important agreement between the ruling class and the people. It declared that no was above the law not even the King and all men/women had a right to justice and a fair trial. “No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land. To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice.” Wikipedia

  1. It’s been interesting to see the hypocrisy surrounding the 800 year anniversary of Magna Carta. In this country our Prime Minister, right at the time when he was supporting a proposal for the Immigration Minister to be allowed to strip suspected terrorists of their citizenship without trial, was making speeches about Magna Carta. Many people quoted the exact section you’ve highlighted here.
